Preliminary Task - Task one

For the preliminary task we had to create a sequence of shots and put them together as a clip. One of the things the clip had to include was the 180 degree rule. The 180 degree rule is for example, where Character 1 in the clip is on the right hand side and Character 2 on the left. Throughout the whole clip, all of the shots must ensure that the same character is on the right and the another one on the left. If this is changed and Character 1 was in a shot where they were shown on the left, it would create a jump and confuse the audience.

The second thing that needed to be included in the clip is a match on action. A match on action is two shots of an item put together to create a continuous edit and the shots link together to create a movement. For example, in my clip, we had a shot of Charlotte getting a safe key out of her pocket and pointing it towards Steve and the second shot which was linked to it was a close up of the key being taken out of Charlotte's hand.

The third thing to be included in the clip is a shot reverse shot. This is where there is a shot of one character looking at another, then the clip reverses and shows the other character looking at the first character.
The shot reverse shot in our clip was a conversation between Charlotte and Steve.

The last thing that needed to be included in the clip was an eye line match. An eye line match is a shot which is filmed on an angle but you are able to see the one characters eyes in line with another. Our eye line match was a shot that was filmed to the left of Charlotte but you could see Steve's eyes looking into Charlotte's.
